Ruby Keys: every source
Ruby Keys come from codes and reward claims: the official MONSTER code pays 3,000 XP and 3 Ruby Keys. Crates run on their own key counters that you top up from the same reward tracks, so claim everything in the HUD before you buy Robux.
Ruby Keys are the reward currency the game hands out for doing nothing in particular, and crate keys are what you spend to open the boxes. Both counters live in the HUD, and both are top-up-able for free.

What a Ruby Key is
The game names them directly in its own reward text: the live code pays 3,000 XP and 3 Ruby Keys. So Ruby Keys are a claim currency - you receive them, they sit in your HUD, and they are part of the same reward economy as the crates.
Every source of keys and rewards
| Source | What it pays | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| The live code MONSTER | 3,000 XP + 3 Ruby Keys | Free, once per account |
| Playtime rewards | XP and potions for time in the session | Free |
| Reward claims in the HUD | XP, rewards and keys, claimed with a click | Free |
| Crate screen key counters | Keys you spend to open crates | Earned in game |
| Codes published later | XP and keys, whenever the developer adds one | Free |
The pattern is consistent across all of them: keys are earned, not bought. There is no Robux purchase for Ruby Keys on the store page - the seven passes cover weight, cash, luck, grow time, XP, bag space and a VIP bundle, and keys are not among them.
Crate keys are a separate counter
The crate screen shows stacks of keys with counts beside each type - you will see rows like x4, x1, x5 next to the different key icons, and the crates themselves are labelled Wood and Stone. Those counts are what a crate costs to open.
Two practical notes:
- Wood crates are the everyday spend. Open them as they come; they keep resources flowing.
- Stone crates are the gear spend. Stone is where a harpoon can come out - streamers pulled the Lava Harpoon from a crate in the 16 October 2026 build. Save Stone keys for a session where you will actually dive, so a new harpoon gets used immediately.
Claiming everything, in order
- Enter MONSTER in the Settings window. Three Ruby Keys and 3,000 XP, immediately.
- Claim the playtime reward the HUD offers. It pays XP and potions for time already spent.
- Work the reward strip until there are no claim buttons left on screen.
- Spend Wood keys immediately, Stone keys deliberately.
Do that once per session and the crate counters never sit idle.
What Ruby Keys are not
They are not a paid currency, they are not traded between players, and they do not affect the depth gate - weight does that. If you are short on progress, keys are not the bottleneck. Food, bag space and harpoon slots are. The money page ranks those; the codes page tells you how to grab the one free payout on this list.
